Traffic & Search Engine Visibility
As a vendor (current or potential), you’ll no doubt want to know how our site ranks in the search engines and how much traffic it gets. Our main targeted search query is “australian businesses for sale”. See our current rankings for bestbusinessbuyes.com.au at:
We also optimise our site to do well on what’s known as “long tail” searches. For example, “restaurants for sale south coast nsw“. We have no interest in ranking well for “restaurants”, even if we could, because the resulting traffic would be un-targeted and unlikely to be interested in what our site has to offer. The long-tail searches may bring a lower volume of searches, but they are targeted visitors and much more likely to buy your business.
The great majority of our traffic is delivered via natural (non-sponsored) search engine results, and that means targeted, motivated visitors!
An important note about traffic statistics from our webmaster:
You’ll often hear website owners quote traffic to their site as so many “hits”, but this can be very misleading. A hit occurs every time a file is downloaded from your site, including graphics and associated files. Note how the number of hits in the snapshot above is way higher than the visits. A single visitor viewing a single page on a site once can result in hundreds of hits.
This tendency to quote hits is understandable. Which sounds better – “we had over 424,000 hits to our website last month”, or “we had over 8,000 unique visitors last month”? But as you can see, “hits” is pretty meaningless.
“Unique visitors” is far more indicative of traffic to your site. It shows the number of real, unique people who visited, regardless of how often they visited, how many pages were viewed or how many associated files were downloaded.
You may see some business broker sites advertising the fact that you can login to their site to view your statistics. This may seem like a useful feature (depending on what they are charging you) but unless you get the full range of statistics including search engines, search queries, links from other pages, direct links etc and a breakdown of visitors, pages and hits, AND you are able to interpret those statistics, the information may be of little real value to you.
If you are a current vendor and would like some specific info on traffic to this site please feel free to contact our webmaster.
